So, in the comics we get introduced to the idea of kids expressing their dreams and desires through objects, that much is something everyone has already understood by now. The biggest clues to understand the music box are small hints both in the printed and digital comics, and through somewhat more direct exposition in Little Nightmares 2 (events that actually happen during the game). But I think the music box in particular, is actually meant to represent something diametrically different than a safe space or only comfort for Six. Now, this reading is not necesarily wrong, I have reassons to think that at least part of this is accurate, given some obvious situations in Little Nightmares 1 and 2 (that is, the part of her wanting to be safe, given how the world is overrun by murderous monsters) and the overall themes of the games.

The evidence people give to support this idea is how Mono forces his way into the room where the Hunter has Six locked up, and then again at the end of the game through the doors in the dark space during the final boss fight. The most common theory I’ve seen is that the music box gives her comfort, that its intended to be some sort of metaphor of Six wanting a safe space of her own, and when Mono aggressively invades this safe space, that makes her angry and pulls her into attack mode during the transmission level. I don’t know if anyone here already discussed this, but I think I already figured out what could be the meaning of the music box, and what could actually represent to Six.
